DRIVE CLEAN COLORADO LAUNCHES INITIATIVE TO PROMOTE ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING AT EMPLOYEE WORKPLACES

Workplaces across Colorado are taking the Watts@Work (W@W) pledge to provide EV charging access to employees that will provide a path to equitable EV ownership

Denver, Colo., Nov. 13, 2023 – Drive Clean Colorado, a non-profit coalition working to accelerate the equitable adoption of clean transportation, is proud to announce the official launch of its Workplace Charging Initiative, Watts@Work (W@W). This initiative is a significant step towards increasing accessibility and equity in EV ownership for Coloradans by providing charging access where they work.

W@W is a comprehensive program designed to empower Colorado workplaces with the tools and resources they need to support electric vehicle adoption among their employees. By encouraging businesses to sign a pledge to provide EV charging access to their workforce, and providing support throughout the process, Drive Clean Colorado aims to create a cleaner and more equitable future for the state.

No matter what stage a workplace is in the evaluation or implementation process, Watts@Work can provide benefits along the way, including:

  • Providing Technical Assistance: Support with charger installations, including home installations for employees who work from home, ensuring that every workplace is equipped to meet its employees’ charging needs.
  • Coaching for Grants and Incentives: Offer guidance in navigating grant and incentive programs to make workplace charging installations more affordable.
  • Promoting Workplace Accomplishments: Recognize and highlight the achievements of workplaces committed to EV charging to showcase their dedication to sustainability and clean mobility.
  • Hosting Workplace EVents: Organize events such as Lunch & Learns and EV Ride & Drives to educate employees about the benefits of electric vehicles provide informational resources
  • Building Connections: Provide connection between participating workplaces to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and collective support within the W@W community.

Emily Harris, Drive Clean Colorado’s Transportation Infrastructure Project Manager, leads this initiative. She states that, “Workplace charging provides the opportunity for EV ownership across communities it may not previously have been accessible to. It allows for employees and employers to take part in reducing their emissions footprint and for us all to have zero-emission commutes to work. As an EV driver who does not have charging at home, I see these benefits every day.”

Workplace charging provides great benefits to both employers and employees. It has been shown to increase employee retention, promote clean air and equitable electric vehicle adoption, and attract new customers.

Harris added that, “By promoting workplace charging, Drive Clean Colorado aims to contribute to the growth of EV infrastructure, reduce transportation-related emissions, and make electric vehicle ownership accessible to a broader spectrum of Coloradans, ultimately accelerating the equitable adoption of clean transportation in our state.”
