Several important fleet funding opportunities are expected in 2027 and now is a good time for fleets to start preparing.

Funding can reduce the cost of a strong project. It cannot substitute for operational needs, realistic infrastructure planning, or internal agreement about what an organization is prepared to do.

DCC helps fleets evaluate options, identify resources and connect with the right partners. Our team has put together some practical steps for fleets considering new vehicles, fuels, or infrastructure in 2027.

Start with the operation

Identify which vehicles are likely to be replaced, document how they are actually used. Duty cycles, mileage, routes, dwell time, payload, terrain, and fueling patterns all affect which technologies are appropriate.

Compare options without assuming the answer

Electric vehicles may work well for some applications. Renewable diesel, RNG, propane, hydrogen, or more efficient conventional equipment may make more sense than others. Begin with the job the vehicle must perform.

Look beyond the vehicle

Infrastructure, site design, utility coordination, permitting, fueling access, maintenance, and staff training can determine whether a project succeeds. These conversations often require more time than expected.

Identify the internal team

Fleet projects typically involve operations, facilities, finance, procurement, leadership, and vehicle users. Determine who needs to approve the project and what information each person will need.

Develop costs and a timeline

Collect preliminary vehicle and infrastructure costs, identify likely funding sources, and work backward from anticipated application and procurement dates.

Putting together a strong application doesn’t have to wait until the funding becomes available. Starting now will put organizations in a stronger position when 2027 opportunities open.
