Looking to take an EV-friendly road trip this summer but aren’t sure where to start?
Thanks to collaborative efforts supported by organizations like our partners at Charge West, electric vehicle (EV) drivers have many opportunities to explore Colorado’s scenic byways. Expanding charging infrastructure throughout rural communities, state and national parks, and along scenic routes is helping make some of Colorado’s most beautiful destinations more accessible to EV travelers.

Recent articles by Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer of HeidiTown.com and Joey Ogers of Forbes highlight just how far EV travel has come in Colorado.
In her article, Heidi shares her journey exploring Colorado’s EV-friendly byways and mentions the growing number of scenic routes that are becoming easier to travel in an electric vehicle. She goes on to highlight some of her favorite byways, showing that EV drivers don’t have to miss out on Colorado’s incredible landscapes.
Forbes also recognizes Colorado as a destination for EV road trips, featuring seven “super-charged” EV byways. One of the seven is Dinosaur Diamond, described as a journey that begins at Dinosaur National Monument and its famous Quarry Wall before continuing through some of Colorado’s most remarkable scenery.

As stated on the Charge West website, “We are committed to improving electric corridors throughout rural gateway communities, state and national parks, and scenic byways.” These continued investments are helping make road trips more accessible for EV drivers while supporting tourism and local communities across the West.
Electrifying all 26 scenic byways is also a priority for the state of Colorado, with the Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) through the Colorado Scenic & Historic Byways Commission. This effort is one of the milestones in an effort to reduce Colorado’s greenhouse gas emissions according to their website: Colorado Electric Byways Tourism Toolkit | Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade
Drive Clean Colorado is proud to support initiatives like Charge West that help make clean transportation more accessible while connecting people to the places that make Colorado unique. Thank you to Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer and Joey Ogers for highlighting these EV-friendly travel opportunites.
