Drive Clean Colorado is spotlighting one of our members, the City of Littleton, for this week’s Stakeholder Spotlight.
We spoke with Laura Rosenbaum, Sustainability Coordinator, about the city’s goals for fleet electrification, a community-wide greenhouse gas inventory, and plans to reduce emissions. As a part of DCC’s Clean Fleet Working Group, the City of Littleton is excited to connect with other cities across the state that are committed to advancing clean transportation. You may have seen the City of Littleton at our Drive Clean Summit and Expo in February, where we were happy to host them and many of our other members!
*These responses are summarized from a conversation with Laura Rosenbaum.
Could you introduce yourself and what you do at the City of Littleton?
I’m Laura Rosenbaum, and I started in the City of Littleton six months ago as Sustainability Coordinator. My position arose from leadership and community members who saw a need for increased sustainability in the city. The Environmental Stewardship Board (ESB) created an Environmental Stewardship Action Plan which included hiring a Sustainability Coordinator. I am the first person in the city to do this work, so I am launching multiple programs and initiatives from the ground up, which is exciting and a great step forward for Littleton.
What goals are you working towards in terms of fleet electrification or EV adoption?
I am working on a greenhouse gas inventory that includes both our community-wide and local government operations. Education and community outreach is one of our most important objectives. In order to strategically tackle city-wide transportation emissions, we are approaching it from a variety of solutions. To achieve the greenhouse gas emissions reductions that we want, we need a combination of vehicle electrification and connecting residents to public transportation options and other modalities.
We have a new fleet manager, TJ Miller, and it’s an exciting moment for Littleton to join Drive Clean Colorado’s network for resources such as the Clean Fleet Working Group to help with our transition and planning for an electrified future.
How does Drive Clean Colorado help you achieve your goals?
We are all looking forward to joining the Clean Fleet Working Group. Peer-to-peer learning opportunities in this space are incredibly important as the region tackles these challenges together. Drive Clean Colorado is exceptionally equipped to help answer specific and technical questions about fleet electrification and provide guidance when it comes to funding larger projects. We are excited to connect with other cities across the state doing this work and continue to drive emissions reductions.
Why did you become a member with Drive Clean Colorado?
I was talking with Matt Lerman at the Colorado Energy Office about the Fleet Zero program and he recommended that I talk to Quin O’Brien at Drive Clean Colorado. I set up a call with him and when I looked at the membership, I thought it would be something beneficial for us. I also used to work for non-profits, so I think it’s important to support non-profit organizations when we can.
Where can people connect with you?
I am working on building out our website which is coming soon, but people can find out about upcoming city events on our website and Instagram. If you are a Littleton resident, you can find me when I run the Environmental Stewardship Board meetings.
