On January 15th, Drive Clean Colorado hosted our first Tech Talk of the year, Full Charge Ahead: Colorado’s EV Charging Momentum. The conversation featured Jim Burness, CEO of National Car Charging, Mary Till, Senior Business Development Specialist at Sawatch Labs, and Bonnie Trowbridge, Executive Director of Drive Clean Colorado, who shared insights on the current status of EV charging in Colorado and what’s next for charging across the state.

Colorado continues to stand out as a bellwether for electric vehicle adoption, and the EV charging landscape is evolving rapidly. This one-hour virtual session brought together professionals, stakeholders, and clean transportation enthusiasts to explore how charging infrastructure is expanding, how new technologies and standards are shaping the market, and what these changes mean for communities, fleets, and businesses statewide.

The discussion examined how EV charging infrastructure is growing across Colorado and the U.S. to meet rising demand. Speakers shared real-world perspectives on how public and private investment, supportive policies, and market momentum are accelerating deployment—from urban corridors to rural and mountain communities.

As EV adoption continues to rise in Colorado, panelists emphasized the importance of thoughtful planning to ensure charging access is reliable, equitable, and aligned with local community needs. Ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace with adoption was a consistent theme throughout the conversation.

Another key focus was how emerging technologies and evolving standards are shaping the EV charging market. Panelists discussed innovations that are improving charger reliability, reducing downtime, and supporting a wider range of vehicle types and use cases. The conversation also highlighted how these advancements influence interoperability, user experience, and long-term infrastructure planning—critical considerations for fleets, site hosts, and businesses navigating electrification.

Throughout the webinar, Jim, Mary, and Bonnie grounded the discussion in practical, on-the-ground impacts. From local governments planning for increased EV adoption, to fleets evaluating electrification strategies, to businesses considering charging as both an amenity and a revenue opportunity, attendees walked away with actionable insights and a clearer understanding of the charging landscape.

The session reinforced that EV charging is no longer a future concept—it is a rapidly maturing industry that depends on collaboration across transportation, energy, and policy sectors.

We sincerely thank our speakers for sharing their time, expertise, and perspectives. Their insights helped bring clarity to a fast-moving and complex industry and made this Tech Talk a valuable conversation for all who attended.
