“Working with Drive Clean Colorado has opened doors for us to meet the right type of people who are interested in clean energy and clean transportation solutions.” – George Andrews, Steel City Solar
Drive Clean Colorado member, Steel City Solar, is a local and veteran-owned business based in Pueblo, Colorado. We met with George Andrews, Business Development Manager, to discuss the services Steel City Solar provides, their current goals, and the advantages of integrating solar with EV charging.
George recently spoke at our March Coalition Conversation about the value of workplace charging, which Steel City Solar has installed for the benefit of their staff. Drive Clean Colorado holds monthly Coalition Conversations for our members to connect with others in the clean transportation space, discuss best practices for electrification, and learn about funding and other resources. Could you introduce yourself and your role at Steel City Solar?
George Andrews: I am the Business Development Manager at Steel City Solar, so I do a little bit of everything between marketing, sales, and internal process control. Recently, I have been focused on marketing. I have been meeting people at events and talking to them about what solar and electrification mean for their home or business, why it’s important, and why now is a good time to switch to solar and electric.
Steel City Solar is a full-service, licensed electrical contractor in Colorado that specializes in Solar. We work with both residential and commercial clients, but recently there has been an increased interest in residential solar because of increasing electricity rates. We can do any type of electrical work, but we primarily focus on solar and EV charger installations.
What are the main factors you identify when you help someone install charging in their home?
We look at their entire electrical system. Because Pueblo is an older city, we often work with homes that aren’t up to code. As we do solar or EV charging installations, we update the whole electrical system. We make sure that the home or business is safe, up to code, and that the customer gets the right product for their needs.
What goals are your organization working towards?
We are continuing to grow our business and our reputation in the community. We are really interested in talking to fleets about adding solar to their electrification plans. Solar and EVs go together like bread and butter, so we would like to help fleet operators own their own energy.
We wanted to partner with Drive Clean Colorado because I met the Southeast Regional Coordinator, AJ Samora, in my previous position with the City of Pueblo. After I started this role at Steel City Solar, I wanted to continue the partnership with the Drive Clean Colorado team. Working with Drive Clean Colorado has opened doors for us to meet the right type of people who are interested in clean energy and clean transportation.
