Drive Clean Colorado is thrilled to announce the launch of the founding cohort of Charging Smart, a technical assistance and certification initiative designed by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC). The Charging Smart initiative supports local governments and recognizes their progress in achieving equitable EV-readiness goals, streamlining regulatory practices, and facilitating the adoption of electric vehicles and charging stations.
As a pilot partner in the Charging Smart program, Drive Clean Colorado supports communities working towards designation as an EV-ready community by providing free technical assistance. The program addresses key areas such as policy, code, education, and utility engagement with a focus on equity and accessibility. Communities benefit from customized scorecards, actionable plans, and ongoing support to achieve national EV-readiness designation. This allows these communities to welcome EV travelers who support the local economy and to seamlessly provide EV charging for members of the community who live and work there.
We’re proud to introduce the Founding Colorado Cohort, a group of trailblazing communities leading the charge toward a cleaner transportation future:
- Adams County
- Brighton
- City of Commerce City
- Denver
- Edgewater
- Erie
- Fort Collins
- Louisville
- Nederland
- Northglenn
- Pueblo
- Westminster
- Winter Park
Over the next six months, cohort members will participate in monthly calls diving deep into topics like regulation, planning, utility engagement, and more. Communities will also work on action items outlined in their scorecards and upload proof of criteria completion in their personalized program folders.
Upon completing the program, each community will graduate with one of three nationally recognized EV-readiness designations at the Bronze, Silver, or Gold level. Drive Clean Colorado will celebrate these milestones with ribbon-cutting ceremonies and resources tailored to each municipality, helping amplify their achievements and inspire other communities.
Follow along as these communities lead the way in advancing equitable and sustainable EV infrastructure. The Charging Smart program is just beginning, and we can’t wait to showcase the innovative work happening across Colorado!
